HTML5 vs. Flash. Fight!
If you follow me on Twitter, you will be aware that I have recently been invited to be a guest speaker at an event for Internet Week Europe in London during November by the guys at BaseKit. (Event posted online soon)
I was asked what I would like to talk about. I thought for a split second. Recently there has been a lot of hype / utter crap written about HTML5 and how it will destroy Flash and walk into the sunset with Chuck Norris and live happily ever after.
HTML5 and Flash are good at very, very different things. They have 2 totally separate purposes. Let’s take it back to basics:
Flash is
Adobe Flash (formerly Macromedia Flash) is a multimedia platform that is popular for adding animation and interactivity to web pages
HTML5 is
HTML5 is being developed as the next major revision of HTML (HyperText Markup Language)
If you think HTML5 means the death of flash. You do not understand HTML5 OR Flash.
Saying that, with full HTML5, full CSS3, CSS transformations (currently only browser specific ‘hack’), Geolocation api, deviceOrientation api. It is much more ‘useful’ than flash (In my opinion).
If you want to come see me talk, follow me on Twitter for more details when I have them!
